Technical Details
This part gives the full mathematical specification of the openMSE modeling framework. Each chapter derives the equations governing one component of the model, defines notation, and documents the assumptions. Cross-references to the relevant conceptual chapters in Operating Model Concepts are provided for readers who want the higher-level description first.
Chapter 22 defines the index sets, dimensions, and mathematical conventions used throughout the Technical Details chapters. This chapter is not complete.
Chapter 23 describes how parameter arrays are constructed from the input objects, including how stochastic draws are taken and how conditioning data are incorporated.
Chapter 24 derives growth, maturity, natural mortality, and fecundity-at-age, including the equations for time-varying schedules.
Chapter 25 covers fishing mortality, selectivity, retention, and discard mortality, including how these vary over time and across simulations.
Chapter 26 derives the unfished equilibrium population, including numbers-at-age, biomass, spawning biomass, and recruitment, which sets the initial conditions for the historical period.
Chapter 27 specifies the full age-structured population dynamics over the historical period, including recruitment, mortality, movement, and how initial conditions are set.
Chapter 28 describes how the observation model generates fishery data from the true population, including catch and effort, abundance indices, and composition data.
Chapter 29 gives the full specification of MSY and auxiliary reference point calculations, including the per-recruit framework, fleet allocation, equilibrium recruitment, and seasonal and spatial considerations.
Chapter 30 specifies the forward simulation used during the MSE projection period, including how management advice is applied and how data are generated each time step. This chapter is not complete.
