Developing Operating Models
An operating model (OM) is the central component of an MSE: it encodes hypotheses about stock biology, fishery dynamics, and observation error, and it generates the simulated data that management procedures act on. This part covers the practical methods to constructing and conditioning an OM in openMSE, depending on what information is available: starting from a built-in template, importing the output of an existing stock assessment, or conditioning directly on data.
Chapter 12 describes the library of OMs included in openMSE and how to inspect and modify them.
Chapter 13 covers how to import a fitted Stock Synthesis model and convert it to an openMSE OM. This chapter is incomplete.
Chapter 14 covers the equivalent workflow for Beaufort Assessment Model outputs. This chapter is incomplete.
Chapter 15 describes how to use the Rapid Conditioning Model (RCM) to condition an operating model directly on observed data. This chapter is incomplete.
